In this session, I’ll take you on a journey through the storms I’ve weathered as a bisexual Black man living in the United States, and how I still use my writing as a lifeline to make it through the day.

Together, we’ll explore how you can transform your own pain into powerful stories of healing and resilience and “write” or “ride” through those storms. I’ll share practical techniques for balancing creativity with self-care, like journaling, but going deeper than journaling and revisiting those “words you never expected to hear” in your life:

  • “Your brother has brain cancer.”
  • “This person died by ___.”
  • “We’re getting a divorce.”
  • “I’m bisexual.”
  • I lost a high paying job.” “I gambled my life savings away.”
  • I feel insufficient like my life has no purpose.”

We’ll uncover how beginning with these specific words, which have been branded into our memory, can guide us to self-advocacy and addressing our health needs that surround these steps, but also reveal that our story has broader implications and impact. The truth is, sometimes our experiences don’t belong to us or only impact us. And someone trekking it alone, needs a spokesperson and a possibility model to reach for.

This isn’t just about writing — it’s about survival in a disconnected, shallow, and chronically stressed United States, and staking a claim in your own personal legacy for your heirs sake.

Join me for a heart-centered conversation that could change how you see yourself and your story.

I’ll be speaking on the “Identity” track at 4 pm ET.
