Exploring Fluidity & Bisexuality Through Poetry: A Journey of Inspiration for Bisexual Awareness Day 2024
As a Bi+ poet, author, artist, activist, and just my mother’s son, I’ve always been curious. I’ve always been drawn to works narratives that explore identity, love, and the spaces between. I’m an adventurer at my core. Poetry is a form that allows us to express the complexity of our experiences unabashedly. Throughout history, many fluid and multi-attracted poets have challenged norms, giving voice to the multifaceted nature of love and selfhood. As I navigate my writing journey, I continue to find inspiration in contemporary and historical figures who reflect this beautiful duality in their work.
One of the well-known Bi+ poets who inspires me significantly is June Jordan. Known for her powerful activism and unapologetic prose, Jordan’s poetry explores race, identity, and love. Her work reminds me that poetry can be a form of rebellion and protest, a way to speak truth to power while celebrating our differences’ beauty. She says, “Poetry is a political act because it involves telling the truth.”
